Art Therapy
Before we start, we may have to let go of everything you've been taught about art...

A misconception about Art Therapy is that you need to be an artist. Art Therapy is therapy with the additional belief that each and every individual holds inherent creativity that enhances the therapeutic journey. In art therapy the emphasis is on the process of art creation, not on the final product.

The artwork plays an important role; when artwork is created, the artist has turned their inner world into tangible form. The artwork comes directly from or out of the emotional life of the client, and an emotion becomes a concrete shape, form or colour giving space for the client to create new structures of meaning and understanding.

Counselling Services Through Art Therapy

I offer counselling services using the modality of art therapy, a unique and creative way to work through your thoughts, feelings, needs, and goals. Art therapy uses the process of art-making to help untangle emotions and gain clarity.

Do your thoughts and feelings sometimes spiral or feel overwhelming? Are you unsure where your emotions are coming from? Creating art provides a visual representation of your inner world, helping you raise awareness and better understand your emotions.

What to Expect in Art Therapy

There’s no “right” or “wrong” in art therapy. It’s not about creating something society considers “beautiful.” Unlike an art class, this process focuses on pure emotional expression. Your art may reflect what you’re feeling inside—even if that’s messy, imperfect, or raw. That’s a good thing! Releasing emotions through art can prevent them from lingering unaddressed in your body.

Art therapy isn’t about following steps to produce a polished final piece. Instead, it’s about the process of creating. Through this journey, you can:

- Experience emotional release

- Find relaxation

- Gain new perspectives

- Learn about yourself

- Stay present in the moment

- Tune into your feelings

- And, of course, have fun!

Who wouldn’t benefit from a little extra fun—especially when struggling with mental health?

A Personalized Approach

I will guide you through an art process tailored to your needs and goals. You don’t need to be an artist to benefit. Art therapy offers a variety of materials (think of your household junk drawer and more—but with purpose!) to build confidence and encourage exploration. If there’s a medium you’ve been curious about, let’s incorporate it into a future session.

Art, even with its challenges, has a way of teaching us about ourselves, offering insights even in moments of disappointment.

Your Art Therapy Session

Each session begins with an art check-in to determine your needs for the day. From there, you can choose:

1. Spontaneous Art: Create without planning or focusing on the end result. Select materials you’re drawn to and let the process unfold naturally.

2. Directive Art: Focus on a specific issue, like “anxiety” or “self-confidence.” I’ll provide a guiding structure while you have the freedom to choose how you express yourself.

During the session, I’ll adapt to your comfort level. I can witness your art-making, chat with you, or quietly work on a non-distracting task nearby. You decide what feels best—whether that’s silence, music, or conversation.

At the end of the session, we can process your artwork together. I’ll place your creation on display, and we’ll explore its meaning through open-ended questions and discussion. We work together as detectives to uncover what your art means to you. Your art may hold different meanings over time, but processing it in the moment allows us to gain valuable insights and work through emotions.

Dreamworks

In addition to art therapy, I also offer dreamwork services. Now offering a new and exciting service of working with dreams: Dreamworks! Currently offering this service to adults.

The process of working with dreams shares many similarities with art therapy. Both artwork and dreams are packed with imagery and symbolism that carry deep meaning to the client.
Dreamworks allows the client to bring their dreams to life through artistic exploration and storytelling.
As a Dreamworks guide, I do not interpret your dream for you, but enable you the freedom to untangle and create meaning from your dreams in a safely held space. Dreamworks work falls in the subconscious realm and therefore offers more space for unveiling material the client may not be aware of.

There are many parts and theories about the process of dreams. Without a doubt, dreams often are reflections of our waking life, and can bring to light internal conflicts, questions and desires. Dreamworks provides a comfortable space to explore dreams with curiosity. This service is offered duirng a regular art therapy session.
